PHOENIX – A mobile mammography program at three Planned Parenthood Arizona health centers in the Valley will now be possible with a grant awarded to the reproductive health care provider by Susan G. Komen for the Cure on April 17, 2012.
A grant in the amount of $21,430 will enable Planned Parenthood Arizona to offer vital mammography services to 120 underserved women in the communities of Chandler, Northeast Phoenix and Scottsdale. Serving more than 70,000 patients annually, Planned Parenthood Arizona’s client base meets the criteria for serving the uninsured and underinsured women and men that Susan G. Komen for the Cure has identified as being most in need.
“We are thrilled to be a recipient of this grant,” says Annet Ruiter, VP of Development and Communications, Planned Parenthood Arizona. “Forty-four percent of our patients live at, or below, 100 percent of the Federal Poverty level, making access to mammograms unattainable. With this grant, we can make mammography for these women possible.”
Planned Parenthood is excited to have the opportunity to continue serving as a community partner of the Phoenix Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The support of projects like this enable underserved, uninsured women to have access to vital health screenings and breast health information, potentially saving lives with early detection.
